Resendervivo and iQOO: SMS forwarding stops in the background
Funtouch OS and OriginOS, the systems on vivo and iQOO phones, keep background apps on a short leash. Two settings let Resender keep forwarding when the screen is off.
The two settings
- Open Settings → Apps → Resender → Battery.
- Choose “Unrestricted” (on Android 11: tap “Background restriction” and lift it).
- On older vivo phones, also open i Manager → App manager → Autostart manager and turn Resender on.
- Unrestricted battery use. Settings → Apps → Resender → Battery: choose Unrestricted. On Android 11 the same screen shows a Background restriction instead — switch it off. On Android 15 and newer (Funtouch OS 15, OriginOS 5) the setting moved: Settings → Battery → Battery manager → Background power control → Resender, choose Allow background power usage (on some phones it is a single switch, Allow background usage, on the app's Background power consumption management page).
- Autostart. On older phones, open i Manager → App manager → Autostart manager and allow Resender; on newer ones the switch is under Settings → Apps → Resender or Settings → Battery → Background power consumption management. Without it the system does not start Resender after a restart or when an SMS arrives while it is not running.
Then take Resender off Android's own battery optimisation: the app's main screen has a button that opens the system list — find Resender and choose Don't optimize.
How to check it worked
Lock the phone, wait a minute, and send it an SMS from another phone. The email should arrive within seconds. If it arrives only after you unlock the phone or open the app, one of the settings is off — after a system update, check both again.
What no app can do
vivo's battery screens have no public interface. No app can read them, change them, or tell whether you have set them. Resender shows a red line when Android reports that it is being restricted and opens the right system screen for you — the switches are yours. Skip them, and messages arrive late or not at all while the app has done everything it is allowed to do.
Questions
Messages arrive late, or only when I open the app. Why?
vivo's system restricts apps that are not on screen unless they are allowed to run in the background and to start on their own. Resender receives the SMS only when the system lets it run again — hence the delay. Set the switches on this page once.
My phone runs Android 11 and the menu looks different.
On Android 11 the setting is a restriction to lift: Settings → Apps → Resender → Battery → Background restriction → off. From Android 12 the same place offers Unrestricted instead.
What is i Manager?
vivo's own system app on older phones. Its Autostart manager decides which apps may start on their own: allow Resender there if your phone has it.
Why doesn't Resender switch these settings itself?
vivo's screens have no public interface: no app can read or change them. The one Android setting an app could change with a single dialog needs a permission Google Play grants only to alarms, calling and similar categories, which a message forwarder is not.
Does this apply to iQOO phones?
Yes. iQOO phones run vivo's system with the same battery and autostart screens.
