Questions and answers
Everything people ask before and after installing Resender, in one place. The short version: Resender emails every new SMS from the Android phone it runs on, through your own mailbox, with no server and no sign-up — and the phone's battery settings are the one thing to get right.
Questions
Can I automatically forward text messages to email?
Yes — that is all Resender does. Each new SMS is emailed as it arrives; you never have to open the app.
How does an SMS forwarder app work?
Android hands every incoming SMS to the apps allowed to receive SMS. Resender runs it down your list of rules — the first match decides, and the last row forwards the rest — and sends an email through your own mailbox, straight from the phone.
Is there a server, an account or a sign-up?
No. Resender has no server and no accounts: the phone sends the email through the mailbox you signed in with, and the only record is the journal on the phone. The app works the moment it is installed.
Which mailboxes can it send through?
Gmail and Outlook.com with a one-tap sign-in; iCloud Mail and more than forty other providers with an app password, recognised from the address; any company or self-hosted server with its SMTP settings. Proton Mail cannot be used as the sender, because it has no mail server apps can reach — but a Proton address can be a recipient.
What does the email look like?
One email per SMS, from your own address. The subject starts with [SMS] and the sender in brackets, then the text of the message; the body repeats the text. Your mail program's rules and search work on it like on any email.
Is SMS forwarding safe?
It is as safe as the mailbox you send to. Resender has no server; only the recipients you chose get the SMS. Never install a forwarder because a stranger asked you to.
What will Android ask me?
To receive SMS. Android names the whole SMS permission group, so the dialog says “send and view SMS messages” — Resender never sends SMS and does not read old ones, only new incoming ones. It may also ask to show notifications, and on a dual-SIM phone, when you first pick a SIM in a rule, to “make and manage phone calls”: that only reads the carrier names of the SIMs.
Can I forward only some senders?
Yes. A rule checks the sender or a word in the text — equals or contains, ignoring upper and lower case — and sends to all recipients, to the ones you select, or to none. Rules are one list, the first match wins, and the last row, Forward the rest, takes whatever no rule took; switch it off and only the rules forward.
Can I forward SMS from only one SIM on a dual-SIM phone?
Partly. Each rule listens on the SIMs you choose, so a sender can be forwarded from one SIM only. The last row, Forward the rest, covers both SIMs: switch it off if the other SIM's messages should stay on the phone.
Can I send to several people?
Yes. Add as many recipients as you need; each rule sends to all of them, to the ones you select, or to none. A recipient can also be a shared mailbox or a group address.
How do I receive SMS from my home SIM while abroad?
Leave the SIM in an Android phone at home with Resender on it, plugged in and online. Its SMS arrive in your email wherever you are, and the phone needs no data plan — Wi-Fi is enough.
Does it work if the phone is off or offline?
No. The phone with the SIM must be on and connected — mobile data or Wi-Fi. If the connection drops, Resender retries for 24 hours. On phones with an aggressive battery manager, also follow the battery guide for your brand.
Why did forwarding stop after a few days?
Almost always the phone's battery manager: Xiaomi, Samsung, Huawei, OPPO and others stop background apps unless you allow them. The app shows a red line on its main screen when Android reports a restriction and opens the right screen; the manufacturer's own switches are in the battery guides.
Why doesn't the app just flip the battery switch?
The one-tap dialog that would do it needs a permission Google Play gives only to a short list of app categories — alarms, calling, device administration and similar. A message forwarder is not on that list. So Resender opens the battery list and you flip the switch: two taps, no permission needed.
Can it forward SMS to another number, WhatsApp or Telegram?
No. Resender forwards to email only. You can read that email anywhere — including in a mail app on the phone you carry.
Is there an iPhone version?
No — iOS does not allow apps to read SMS. The phone running Resender has to be an Android one, but you can read the forwarded emails on an iPhone, for example in iCloud Mail.
Are chat messages (RCS) forwarded?
No. Messages that arrive as a chat (RCS) are not SMS and are not forwarded.
Is it free?
Free forwards 3 SMS a day with every feature. Pro removes the limit: a monthly or yearly subscription on Google Play, priced for your country, and the first 7 days after the first launch are Pro at no charge, no card needed.
What happens to an SMS over the daily limit?
It is held in the journal instead of being sent, and you get one notice that day. Buying Pro sends the SMS held in the last 24 hours.
How do I cancel Pro?
In Google Play: the Play Store app → your profile picture → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → Resender → Cancel. Pro stays until the end of the paid period; then only the daily limit returns, and your rules stay as they are. Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription.
What does Resender keep on the phone?
The text of a message for 7 days and its record for 30 days, then deleted automatically; the journal shows them. Sign-in tokens and app passwords are kept encrypted on the phone. Nothing is sent anywhere except to the recipients you chose.
How do I report a problem?
In the app: Settings → Write to the developer. It sends a message to support@resender.me through your own mailbox with a technical report: the device, the app's state, your mail server's host name and your address with the name masked — no phone numbers, SMS texts or passwords. A person reads it.
